Ingredient List

  • 1 can (398 mL) Old El Paso™ Refried Beans
  • 2 tablespoons (30 mL) from 1 container (177 g) Old El Paso™ Taco Seasoning Mix
  • 1 container (250 mL) sour cream
  • 1 can (113 mL) Old El Paso™ Chopped Green Chilies, drained
  • 1 ¼ cups (300 mL) guacamole
  • 1 ¼ cups (300 mL) from 1 jar (650 mL) Old El Paso™ Thick N’ Chunky Salsa
  • 1 cup (250 mL) shredded Cheddar or Colby-Monterey Jack cheese blend
  • 1 cup (250 mL) shredded lettuce
  • 2 tablespoons (30 mL) sliced ripe olives
  • Tortilla Chips, crackers, breadsticks or cut up veggies for dipping

Preparation

  1. In small bowl, mix refried beans and 2 tablespoons (30 mL) taco seasoning mix. Spread about 3 tablespoons (45 mL) mixture in bottom of each of ten 4-oz (120 mL) or 6-oz (180 mL) mason jars.
  2. Mix sour cream and green chilies; divide evenly among cups (about 2 tablespoons/30 mL per cup). Top each with about 2 tablespoons (30 mL) each guacamole and salsa, slightly less than 1 tablespoon (15 mL) each cheese and lettuce, and a few olive slices.
  3. Serve with your favourite tortilla chips, crackers, pretzels or fresh veggies for dipping.

Expert Tips

  • Did you know? Old El Paso™ Taco Seasoning Mix now comes in a Value Size container (177 g) so you can use as much as you need in recipes like this one. If you only have a 24 g pouch of taco seasoning mix, that’s okay – just save the leftover seasoning in the pouch for another recipe or throw it into a pasta sauce or chili for a little extra flavour.
  • Jars are especially nice for this recipe because you can see the layers, but plastic reusable containers would work well, too, and may even be preferred if this is getting packed into a lunch bag.
